exp joint and internal pressure
how should the wind loads be modeled for a building with an expansion joint that has an interior partition wall attached to one side at the joint?
option a, assume internal pressures on each side are the same and design the wall structure for 5psf code minimum not incorporating this into the mwfrs.
option b, design the wall assuming internal pressures are opposite either side (+ one side and - on the other, double the actual internal pressure) and incorporate this into the design of the mwfrs for the side supporting the partition.
any input is appreciated.
check out our whitepaper library.
is the enclosure classification the same on both sides of the partition?  it is an interior wall, i don't see how it would receive a different wind load than any other interior wall.  unless i don't have all the information, option a appears to be the right option.
yes,
same enclosure classification both sides.
i think i've convinced myself that the entire building has either positive or negative internal pressure and can not be positive on half and negative on the other half. it's just that the parition makes it seem like 2 distict buildings that could have significant differential pressures each side.
thanks
