fatigue
hi,
can anyone provide me with some links where i can find fatigue of al 2024 alloys or for that matter any al alloys

fatigue what?
------------
if you have no specific data, bs7608 or bs 5500 (or whatever the en number is now) has 'fatigue' for mild steel but the data can be used for other material if you ratio the young's modulii (moduluses?)

the aluminum association design manual has a chapter on fatigue which discusses allowable stress reduction methodology for constant and variable amplitude loading. throughout the manual are specifications, examples and dealing with fatigue. it is not a simple subject. there are many different considerations. for example in a chart for typical mechanical properties not for design, for 2024, the endurance limit varies from 90 to 160 mpa depending on the temper. i suggest you aquire a design manual or engage the services of an engineer experienced with aluminum.
the faa replacement for mil-hdbk5, something with to horrible name of ar-mmpds-01, available free on-line at ...
i've never looked at it myself, but asm has a book titled: atlas of fatigue curves
my experience is that determining the more refined fatigue properties of aluminum alloys is pretty tricky as e.g. the coefficients of smith-watson-topper through seeger.
if you cannot find bonafied data for the material, you should try to estimate an s/n curve and not trust the results too much.
the nasa marshall space flight center has a free structures manual that has a pretty good fatigue section. it can be downloaded here; |
