galvanic anodes - cost?
does anyone have a rough (or accurate) idea of what galvanic anodes cost (small zinc hockey pucs placed in repaired concrete - wired to the rebar as sacrificial anodes?)
jae...the small disc type will run about $3.50 to $10.00 each, depending on size. i assume for repairs you will be looking at multiple discs, small diameter...so probably in the $3.50 to $5.00 each range.
if you are doing "cleanout" repairs where the concrete is excavated from around rebar, you'll have to provide a wire connection to the rebar, but that's not a big deal. if you are placing the rebar, you can get the discs with a center hole close to the size of your rebar, slide them over the rebar, then use a small torch to heat the zinc enough to bond to the steel.
i have not used the discs but have used magnesium anode packs buried in soil. the last time i bought one i believe it was about $30 or $40 for a 5 lb. pack, with attached lead.
