gantry seismic analysis
good day all,
i am looking for a checklist of items to review for the seismic analysis of a gantry system. in modeling the structure i believe that in addition to load factoring of the static loads and boundary conditions there also needs to be a buckling run and a modal analysis. can i humbly ask for some guidance on the breadth of the items to consider and the approximate loads, modes and frequencies that should be scrutinized.
thanks,
n
are you designing the gantry or just analyzing the seismic response? connections, components, impact, braking, fatigue, foundations and live load capacity also need checking. is the gantry on wheels/rollers or stationary?
i think you need to get a structural to help out. this is no small project.
one large comapny had a gantry crane where the rail end stops were either left off or taken off for repairs. you guessed it - the operator drove it off the end and sadly to his death.
thanks for your interest,
for this part of the analysis review i want to consider just seismic considerations. the modeling so far does not address the possibility and i wonder what the appropriate loads and boundary conditions would be. note that the gantry system is stationary, mounted in concrete with 30" square footings (6). the gantry weighs about 15 tons and is going to carry 15 tons. like i said this is solid modeled, but missing some key analysis for seismic load cases. i want to know what those cases are.
