how many kitchens are allowed residential single family home
does anyone know how many kitchens are allowed in zone single single family home?
check out our whitepaper library.
as many as the owner wants as long as the code is followed. why not make all the house a kitchen and the porch as dining room?
too many kitchens spoil the cook!
ask the architect.
lol
wait, i can't believe i just typed that.
you can have as many kitchens as you like, but be careful that the additional kitchens don't make the house appear to be divisible into multiple units (duplex, triplex, etc.) as that might violate zoning restrictions.
building codes do not care, but zoning codes typically do. if you are zoned single family, a second kitchen may change the dwelling to a two family, depending on the definitions in the zoning code.  you may have to get a variance to add the second kitchen.  i suggest you contact your local zoning official to read the zoning requirements, how to interpret them, and what resistance, if any, you may face getting the variance approved.

ron:
if i use microwave in snack bar with regular sink and refrigerator, etc. will this consider a kitchen catagory?

it sounds like a very common nice set-up for a den family room next to the wet bar.
it is a code/use question, not a structural question.

as noted - check your local codes... i have seen a number of kitchens in the basement --- either for grandma or somebody was a gourmet cook and needed more equipment....or the wife hated the smell of cabbage, fish, b-b-que, etc. that the he was cooking all the time.  had a really good vent hood...
it is common to have "convenience kitchens" or "morning kitchens" near or in a family room or master bedroom.
two fully appointed kitchens of comparable stature in a house might raise the zoning issue.
the zoning ordinances or previous appeals cases should help you determine when there is a kitchen.  typically, it means a stove and sink, and a wet bar with a microwave and frig are not typically considered kitchens.
"mother-in-law" suites can be a real issue for some communities.  if a separate apartment is permitted, the fear becomes the next owner will use it as a 2 family dwelling.
