masonry shearwall height/length ratio
are there any guidelines or code provisions in ibc or aci 530 for masonry shearwall height to length ratios?  i am working on a small airplane hanger.  the walls on eiher side of the large door are giving me the trouble.  the walls are 2'-9" long and 20' tall as it is now.  i have a 2800# unfactored shear (wind) load acting at the top of the wall.  should i be looking at modify the design to something else...any recommendations would be appreciated.  thank you.
check out our whitepaper library.
sorry that is 7700# total shear...not 2800#
have you tried "reinforced masonry" design approach?
there are no limitations to how tall and thin a masonry shear wall can be.  your moment is 77000 lb-ft (i assumed half of the 7700 lbs to each wall).  your "d" will be 33" minus 4" = 29".  assuming 12" cmu, "k" will be 95, and rho will be 0.009.  therefore, roughly 3 sq. in. of rebar is required, which seems to be excessive.
i would try a steel portal frame--don't you have a steel lintel spanning across the door anyway?
