metal deck attachment
we have a very small hanging load (~50lbs)that will be supported by a 22 gauge metal roof deck. does anybody have a bracket or hanger that would screw to the underside of the roof deck and can support a wire rope type hanging load.
know any mechanical contractors?
they always seem to be hanging ductwork with toggle type bolts through roof deck.
i tell them they can't hang loads from the deck, but that only seems to make them stop long enough till i leave the job site.
there are a bunch of fasteners that may solve your problem..
check with simpson, usp, mcmaster-carr, grainger, itw or even lowes.
but be careful not to penetrate your roof deck or you will have more problems --- like rain water leaks!!
regardless of how small the load may be, i try to avoid relying on tensile capacity of a screw through sheet metal. i would put a small bent clip angle that is screwed to the web of the roof deck so the screw acts partially in shear.
unistrut. really nice system. might even work between 2 joists.
threaded eyebolt with nuts and lockwashers top and bottom. all materials hot-dipped galvanized.

we've exhausted the uni-strut option...or, shall i say the architect has eliminated it. we all know this is done all the time with electrical and mechanical contractors, i thought somebody may have a unique clip with some allowable capacities. thanks.
if it is to be specified on a new structure, how about a bluebanger with an eyebolt? if it is existing, this won't work. |
