multiple cracks in masonry wall during hurricane
does anyone know the proper reference/standard for appropriate repair procedures to masonry walls that have experienced deflection and exhibits multiple hairline cracks? the cracks are consistent with material shrinkage that was aggravated by possible wind damage. there is no out-of-plane displacement and the cracks measure less than 1/64". the reason i'm concerned is because the majority of the wall is riddled with them. it is my understanding that the cmu's in this unreinforced wall can still resist bending because of the compressive strength -vs- the neutral axis. thanks in advance for any response.
for aesthetics, you could consider re-pointing the mortar using a polymer modified mortar. otherwise, do nothing. |
