pins for clevises - rod bracing
i haven't designed rod bracing but the situation seems to present itself, so here it goes. i have a couple of questions.
what do you you use for pins for clevises for rod bracing? bolts, rods?  how do you detail a rod so that it doesn't slide out horizontally perpendicular to the gusset? are there any special detailing requirements or just detailing tips i should be aware of?
since a rod is not high strength, the chapter j equations for hs bolts don't apply correct? would shear be 0.4fy?
is the plural of clevis, clevii? ;)

if you look at table 15-4 (page 15-15 in aisc 360-05), they give diameters of pins and rods that go with the clevises.
drill a 1/4" hole thru the clevis pin and insert a 3/16" pin, 1-1/2" longer than the pin dia., to be bent after assembly.  i alway used clevises for plural.
i always use a turnbuckle in the assembly too, both to stress the rod and for leveling.

if you have a clevis at each end, you can get clevises (and rods) with opposing threads for tightening.
for shear in the clevis pin, round bar stock, the old allowable stress codes used to allow 0.40 fy.  you'll want to call for a 1/16" chamfer at the edge of the pin.
