quality assurance program
i do a little work on the side putting together plans for residential construction.  seeing, though, that residential construction has all but ceased, i'm looking at doing a small commercial building.  the building code requires that a quality assurance plan be written for this building (high wind) but doesn't give very good specifics about how it's to be written.  anyone got any good examples or advice?  thanks.
check out our whitepaper library.
jonathanwilkins,
try going to the aisc website and look at there bridge or building certification programs. they have a self audit that you could use as a starting point.
iso9000 materials give guidance in the writing of quality plans. i recommend pursuing this.
quality control has been a way of life in aero, and it has spilled over into industry. auto has their own version, qs9000; not recommmended.
this is a whole new world for someone who has not operated in quality systems. i personally believe in it, and it should be embraced by big and little enterprises. european companies will demand iso certification before they do business with you.
in larger companies, a qc professional will run the qc operation, but there is no reason why an engineer couldn't learn the ropes and embrace the system. good luck.
check the faq's
if the code is based on either the 2000 or 2003 ibc, then the qa plan pertains to quality assurance during construction....and should include a testing and special inspections program. in the 2006 ibc this is referred to as a statement of special inspections.
a google search will yield lots of examples of guidelines for developing a qa or statement of si for wind resistance. the search will also have links for qa plans that have been submitted as a condition for permit issuance.
you can get the haldron particle collider qc/qa off the net - not sure it is wise.

what i'm referring to is the 2003 ibc.  i've done a google search and it's not yielded exactly what i need.  thanks for everyone's input.
