revit structural
how difficult is it to learn revit structural?  is a 3-day seminar a good idea?  can it be "picked up" from a book, some knowledge of revit architectural, or autocad knowledge?
any other comments about revit in general would be appreciated, although did i read through some past links that addressed revit and 3d modelling issues.
thanks in advance.
find a job or post a job opening
millr,
i tried 'picking up' revit structure but could not do it. our work load just would not permit the time to dive in like i would have wanted. in fact, our work load would barely permit a few hours a week to go through the tutorials. when the time comes that we have to make the switch, we will have to do it by total immersion!  (most likey, this will include a week-long course.)
good luck!
yes, i would agree.  i have been working with revit structural over the past 4 months trying to pick it up. it is extremely frustrating to learn, and probably my job is in jeapordy because of the time i have spent on it.  having used autocad does not help, most all things are different, even keyboard shortcut keys.
to learn revit, i would recommend doing the tutorials first over time, and maybe doing a very small portion of a project with it.  to do the project, i would create the model in revit and dump it to acad and do annotations there.
at this point i would go to the training.
then after the training i would try doing whole projects in revit.
the website revitcity.com has some good tutorials, and a great place to find answers to questions. it does not matter that much information that you find is for revit building, revit structure is essentially the same as far as i can tell.
i went to the traing before starting with revit, and at the time most of it was over my head.  just too much information.
i have to say though once you really get going it is pretty darn slick.
thank you both.  i'll take the class.
i just went to a 3-day class and i think it is a good investment.  if you try to pick it up on your own, you can easily spend that many hours but not as effectively.
baw1, i believe all the shortcut keys are customizeable so you can set them to whatever you like.
this bim stuff requires your management to be behind you 100%. sadly, mangement generally doesn't understand that these programs have quite a steep learning curve.
