shear core
i am designing my first moderately high building (10 storys). in other buildings to date i have used shear wall construction before but as axial compression due to vertical loads have dominated, lateral/ wind loads have not been critical.
with this building i intend to provide stability using shear cores to resist the wind loads. i am practicing in ireland and there is a lack of concise information regarding the proper design of shear cores. i have read theory about dynamic analysis, post elastic  stress distribution , plastic stress distribution, lintel forces in coupled walls etc but cannot find an accurate design guide. can anyone help me?

find a job or post a job opening
there is a rather good paper out of the uk from the mid to early 90s; i have a copy at the office, and will scan it and post for you.  saturday here, and monday is a holiday...  i'll do it tuesday (prob your monday).
cheers,

thanks a million, that would be brilliant
hello parrot77;
     please find the paper attached.  also, please note that it is earlier than i originally thought, but i still find it quite useful.  i hope you do as well.
     i don't know what the state of seismic design is in ireland, but this would definately not be anywhere near sufficient for a properly "active" seismic area.  please just bear that in mind while using the paper.
regards,
ys

youngstructural,
seismic design is rarely considered critical in the uk or ireland, we are in an area of extremely low seismic activity.
thanks a million for the paper.. it will prove very useful. if i can ever do you a similar favour i will, i'll keep an eye out for your threads!!
i see ireland are down in wellington this weekend playing your boys in the rugby. go on the boys in green!!
glad to help out.  as i've said elsewhere, it should be why we're all here...
and as for the rugby, i'm not much of a fan.  besides, either team would thoroughly trash my homeland (canada) i'm afraid... but i'd love to see a game of either gaelic football or lacross played between the green and red; would be worth it for the comedy value alone...
cheers,
ys
