sliding partition walls
can someone point me to deflection criteria for movable partitions/sliding partitions typically found in large conference rooms?  or is this more manufacturer driven?
thanks in advance

in my experience, this always involves negotiation with the manufacturer of the partition system.  either he tells you the deflection his system can handle or you tell him how much deflection he has to accommodate.  then argue.
i worry about the deflection of the structure carrying the walls - esp when the walls are all moved to one end or the other - or some can even move the panels to the middle of a room.  you can get some very heavy concentrated loads!!
i typically design the supporting beam for l/500 or 3/8" deflection with the whole wall load in the middle.
okay for prliminary design, but it should be checked once the manufacturer is chosen.

moveable partitions that are hung from above usually have a bottom detail that allows for some deflection in the supporting structure.  my experience is you have to ask the mfgr directly for the allowable range of movement.  talking to the mfgr is a good starting point anyway as their deflection criteria and details may differ.
