truss analysis when load is not at panel point
i am trying to determine a method to analyze trusses when they are subjected to a load that is not at a panel point. we have trusses that are 60' long and have panel points every 7.5'. the problem comes to light when we try to install hoists in our assembly and machining areas. the hoists are no larger than two tons but they never seem to hang from a panel point when we do the layouts. is there an accurate method to determine what reinforcing must be done to allow for the increased loads?
thanks,
1. check local bending of the member stressed and also transfer load to adjacent nodes to determine axial loading.
this will assist in reinforcing the existing members as well joints.
2. another way is to model it. use of a good software!
