tube bending ?
hey everyone,
i have to bend a piece of round steel tubing 20 deg with an od of 1.75in and a wall thickness of .125in.  does anyone know what formula i might use to calculate the force i would require to bend this pipe to these specs ?  i'm trying to spec out a cylinder but i'm not sure how much force i will need?
thanks for the help.

you should be able to bound your problem by treating it as a beam and solving the beam equation using the end conditions that best approximate your bending fixture.

bring back the hp-15
the normal beam equations assume that the steel is stressed within the range where normal elastic behaviour occurs. to bend it you need to stress it to a point where it yields.
assume yield stress over the whole cross section to find bending moment (approximately).  if you have a stress-strain curve, guess you could come a bit closer.
