where is cadd going in the next five or ten years?
all,
i would appreicate some discussion on where cadd is going in the next 5 or 10 years. specifically, but not limited to the aec industry.

with the implementation of the building information model (bim) i see cadd heading into three directions; cad 3d modeling, engineering analysis, and data extraction.
3d modelers at individual firms will contribute their submodels to the parent model where the information will be incorporated, stored, and be made available to the project team. interfearance checking will be a major task at the parent level.
various disciplines will use the bim to perform analysis; structural, hvac, electrical, etc. will use the bim geometry as input and will in turn export their results back to the bim in the form of

thanks for the link. after reading the article i seached on the phrase "us national cad standard" and uncovered a wealth of information on the future of cadd.
i believe we need a big leap in the user interface.
i spent the past 10 years as the main cad producer in a small office, but carpal tunnel in both hands + surgery ended my career.
my employer wasn't concerned.
