solidworks 2008 multiple installations
using solidworks 2006 sp4.1;
i am an independent contractor using my client's software license time to time to give them a hand on their projects. i would like to upgrade to at least solidworks 2008.
will installing the software via the internet prevent my client's in-house designers from using the software, or are multiple users allowed activating the software?
if not, how does someone in my case use the client's license for their end means?
any response will be greatly appreciated!

solidworks has an 80/20 licensing rule (80% office, 20% home). i suppose, theoretically, your install could be considered "home use", but i'm not sure there wouldn't be a license violation.
much of it depends on how many seats they have, is it a network install or stand-alones, etc.
you might want to go to help->about solidworks and read the license agreement.

i really doubt that sw would consider that to fall under the home use portion of the license agreement.  if you are doing work for your client using their license, then they should not be using it at the same time.  depending on how many licenses they own vs. how many they are currently using, they may be able to release the activation for a seat so that you can use it.  however, when you are done with it then you will need to release the activation again.  this is done with "activate license..." and "transfer license..." from the help menu.

... and if you upgrade a seat, but they don't, they will not be able to open the files created with the newer version.

i think it's a stand-alone type software!
as for upgrading, i would always be in sync with them. they are the master & i am the slave!

short answer ... no.  however you must make sure that your license is not being used on another pc at the same time. the 80/20 rule, mentioned above, assumes there is only one user of that license.

you would need to be given the login and password to access the download site - or -  be given a copy of the downloads for installation on your pc.
