wind direction for runway usage
wind direction for runway usage
i need to filter wind conditions that make a runway unusable. i have the direction and speed, however i need to calculate how much of this is a tailwind, headwind & crosswind for a particular runway. if anyone knows of a formula or software that can do this for me please let me know. thank you!!! check out our whitepaper library. log onto sporty's pilot shop and pick up the very "high-tech" e6-b computer. it's not really a computer, but more of a pilot's slide rule that can calculate wind direction. thank you for the info on the e6b computer, however i have a database of 241,000 records that i need to analyze. i really need the formula that breaks a wind up into its crosswind and tail/headwind components. thanks again!! why wouldn't this be a simple case of vector components?? if theta is the angle between the runway and the wind direction, the wind component along the runway is (wind speed)*cos(theta) and the cross wind component is (wind speed)*sin(theta)... remember the actual runway heading may differ from its number designation. |
