tack weld symbol
i am currently designing a manufacturing drawing that designates a fillet tack weld. what is the proper way to call this in a drawing?
from what i have researched (i have seen a gif online, great source) it should be a weld symbol with a fillet triangle and a tail with text in it that states tack. is this correct? if i want to designate tack weld in two places do i call 2x tack or is there a better way?
thanks for any help you can give me.
per aws, tack welds are for fixturing only, and are to be either consumed by the desired final weld, or removed.
if what you really want is a short fillet weld, then call out a short fillet weld.
it will be consumed. this is a manufacturing drawing. just one step in the process of welding the part together.
so how do you call it then?
i would use "2x (type of weld) tack", then a note for which spec to use.

depending on the complexity of what i am attempting to hold in alignment i like to tie the pertinent dimensions to the necessary welds.
one way to do this is refer to the same note next to the necessary dimensions, and in the tail of the tack welds. the note would read along the lines of:
"align items 1 and 2 as indicated and tack in place."
might not be per ansi, but i've never had a fab shop come back with a question.
