what does oderror_duplicaterecordname exception actually mean....i get this when when i use exhostappservices::readfile()

in general this exception means that an attempt is made to add a symbol table record with non-unique name.
most probably in your case this happens while loading an r12 file and you have exceptions/microsoft c++ exceptions = stop always in your debugger. if so just pay no attention to it.
this type of exception is handled inside of readfile().
r12 is loaded into initialized database and such exception occurs while reading linetype continuos, style standard etc.
