using the above (but not 2003) i've tried to link using both the vc6 and vc2003 versions (md), and both failed with the acis libraries (one had a new directive or similar, the other had undefined symbols such as
declspec(dllimport) struct iobuf * __cdecl std::__fiopen(char const *, int)). this isn't too much of a problem, since we're moving to vc2003, but could affect others.

using the dll forms of the libraries seems to work.

glad you posted this - i tried to link with vc7 (otherwise known as vc.net), had similar errors. so, i had another developer try to link with vc8, still got similar errors. so, i stuck with vc6, which works ok.
we dont ship with the dll's so thats not a solution.
unfortunately, the examples dont have projects for vc7 and vc8 - "that would be good."
