i-beam losd vs span?
i am looking for a chart or something that can give me some idea of the load an i-beam could handle over different spans. a chart that shows standard i-beams from spans in 5 or 10 foot spacings. for 12" by 31.8,35, 40.8,and 50 pound per foot beams. this is just for a referance not for a single application.
for calculating the load bearing capacity of an i-beam u need to evaluate the maximum bending stress with reference to ur load conditions. this should not exceed the allowable bending strength of the material u r selecting. also for this, u need to check out the moment of inertia for the particular section u r taking.
