inspection of the snug-tight bolts
what is the best way to inspect snug-tight bolts at pre-engineered metal buildings? check out our whitepaper library. i generally check a few in different locations, just using my hands. however, i always get the steel erectors checking process and certification. thus that i can be confident that some one has done a check. funny thing is that they do not give you these for the purlin bolts, and i normally check a few of these and more often than you would like to think, i find they are loose. when in doubt, just take the next small step. you may want to check out: i sometimes post in a couple of forums; often get a better range of responses... dik snug tight bolts are generally tightened to the max effort from a structural steel erector's 'spud' wrench. if you can check them by hand, they are way too loose. there are several publications, that indicate a torque for 'snug' tight conditions. they are tight enough to generally prevent them from loosening over time. dik |
