ring beams on tanks at cone to cylinder
ring beams on tanks at cone to cylinder
can someone please give me a website or other resource which provides details of typical ring beams on tanks at abrupt changes of shell slope? (ie at a cone to cylinder) i'm designing a tank with fea and i can't get a good method of lowering shell stress at the ring beam thanks, richard ellis api-620 is the standard reference. but be aware that the design methods of api-620 may allow some localized yielding and bending in that area- so don't just assume that designs meeting the standard are going to check out okay on fea as well. have a look at: - pressure vessel design handbook by bednar. tubular steel structures by troitsky (one of the lincoln welding books). barryeng you could try the following two books. while focusing on bins for bulk solids, they do have info on ring beams. "design of steel bins for storage of bulk solids" by gaylord and gaylord. this is my favorite book for bin design but is out of print and hard to find. however it has a section on ring beams. "guide for the economic design of circular metal silos" by j. michael rotter. professor rotter has done a lot of research on steel bins and published papers relating to specific topics. regards, -mike just a thought, but when analysing tanks of certain geometry, it is possible that the forces act in tension only and not it bending, thus creating hoop stresses. i have modeled this situation as membranes not shells. regards vod |
