what are seal welds? how are they accomplished? are structural values different? thanks

when i specify a seal weld i do not use consider it for structural behavior unless i accompany it with a weld symbol and size.
a seal weld is used to keep water from getting between two steel surfaces (or sim).
please note that when a seal weld is returned around a corner, it may not be done in accordance with standard structural practices (ex end returns and terminations).
my only application of seal welds if to close hollow sections. not structural.
seal welds shouldn't be counted as contributing to structural applications, but you should still analyze what stresses they might get subjected to, because a cracked seal weld does you no good and might even spread to become a problem.
