terminology-"positive"
what exactly is the meaning and context of a "positive connection" (as in building framing)?...and what about "positive slope" (as in slopes for drainage in earthwork)? thanks!

a positive connection is a connection that doesn't rely on only gravity to maintain a resistance to uplift.
i would add to uleaum's response that a positive connection must have some type of mechanical interlock or adhesive bond (i.e. does not rely solely on gravity or friction for resistance).
