"create dxf" macro
i've been trying to make a macro that will create a dxf of a part file that is currently open. i am not very familiar with vb so it seems impossible. to somebody that knows vb very well it would probably be very easy. if anybody has one that they are willing to share that would greatly appreciated. thanks

as far as i know you can create a dxf from a drawing, not a part or assembly.

in 2008 you can just open part and click save as dxf.
it is a lot faster then in 2007 but what i eventually want is to make a macro that will prompt me to open a folder and or select a file and save them all as dxf. for now i could work with one that just saves as dxf.

guess i was wrong then. i am still using 2007.
wasn't there anything in the 08 api help file about saving as dxf?
what do you get when you record a macro by clicking on save as and then saving as a dxf?

yes there was but that one does not save it make the drawing but it does not save it and it does not hide the template and for as dumb as i am i can not figure out how to make it save or remove the template.

i don't quite understand what you mean or need for your macro. i am not a programmer and just do super simple macros to make my job easier. maybe someone who knows more and is running 08 could help out.

in 2008 there is no save as dxf for parts. per the help file;
the dxf/dwg translator exports only drawing documents as .dxf or .dwg files. when you export a drawing as a .dxf or .dwg file, the drawing's sheet scale is used for the new file. all entities (such as edges, annotations, and assembly components) on layers are exported to the assigned layer.
do you mean drawings? if so this attachment will save the drawing as dxf in the directory that the macro is being run in.
if you need it more automated that would take a little more coding that i don't have time for right now. but this is a start for you, but i think it would be just as easy to run the saveas through solidworks until this is automated to grab the filename from solidworks and change the extension.

sorry guys there is a direct export for a part file to dxf i use it quite often
