calcium chloride in reinforced concrete
calcium chloride in reinforced concrete
i posted this on the concrete admixture forum also, i'm trying to help out a gc who called me in sort of a panic that his concrete contractor had used 1% calcium chloride in the piers for a pre-engineered building. he did this, unbeknownst to the gc, to accelerate the concrete set as he had to repour the piers because they were poured at the wrong height the first time. obviously, the 3/4" dia anchor bolts will have both tension and shear forces (i don't have the numbers yet.) i have thought about using a penetrating corrosion inhibitor, but i am not sure if this is overkill or not. (i have used that remediation process on prestressed concrete parking garages.)
can anyone point me to a reference or give me an idea of what extent of corrosion we may be looking at? possibly a percentage of steel lost vs time?
thanks.

don't know if this has what you are looking for, but it's a place to start. sika has a total corrosion management section on their website and data sheets on various products for corrosion protection.
like so many questions, the devil is in the details. looks like a 1% concentration could be either unacceptable, or marginally acceptable per a recent edition of aci 318...
