cinder block&brick strength
hello all,
could anyone point me into the right direction when it comes to what kind of cinder block or brick that is used for commercial buildings, past to present..
i need to find the compression strength of both materials when a load is applied to the side of the wall..

from some typical notes:
concrete block: astm c90 grade n with minimum compressive strength of 1900psi on net section.
type s or m mortar. astm c270
the masonry strength f'm used for engineering is a function of the the mortar and block strength and is obtained through testing prism strength. the minimum required by the aci 530 is 1500 psi.
clay brick (veneer) aren't normally structural, i don't exactly what spec to point you to. there are structural brick that you can probably find by searching the net. they are usually stronger in compressive strength the concrete block, probably in the 4000-6000 psi range.
