coped beam web buckling strength
i was trying to evaluate the web buckling strength of a w18x76 with a 5" deep cope on the top and a 3" deep cope on the bottom. the length of the cope is 3.25"
i was using aisc volume ii connections, app b (1992) for my text. they give an adjustment factor for a cope depth <= 0.2d. but they don't tell you what to do if the cope > 0.2d. then i found example 4 with cope > 0.2d and they used the adjustment factor for equation b-5 anyway!
i checked the aisc website for errata and it did not cover this appendix. my other choice might be using equations a-b5-3 and a-b5-4 in app b of aisc 9th ed specs. help!!!
check out our whitepaper library.
the 13th edition manual has a whole section on this. i don't have my manual in front of me, but i know it's there.
thanks for the tip. i found it on 9-8 in the 13th ed.
