crane collapse video - india
oops
wow.

yea, it seems the crane on the left fails, as the camera pans over, you can see the boom seperated from the crane. then, on the left, it looks like the counterweight comes off, sure hope it didnt take the driver out
they were trying to lift a frame from an earlier collape in the same project. see some photos here
it would be real interesting to look at the base of the crane boom failure. could be a lot of things here, most pointing to maintenance. any preliminary indications of an overreach condition?
interesting that the truck tipped after the boom failed - the cables must have pulled it over.

3 cranes appear to be involved in the original lift: the one on the far left seems ok at the end
the center failed first, which overloaded the one on the right and flipped it up -> then the counterweight fell off the one on the right.
one boom (hollow steel structure) (in the middle i think) ripped in two.
seems to me with three cranes, there's no good way to equalize the load.
that unbalanced load between the three cranes might very be what overloaded and broke the center boom.
odd that they would - short of a casualty or injured worker recovery - be making such a large lift immediately after a fatal load failure just the day before. or very telling that the same errors would repeat the next day, if the same operators and planners were still on site.
no, i'm wrong: four cranes.
the boom of the far left broke in two, as did the near left boom. far right hook is still attached = that is where the camera was focused in the beginning.

see attached for presentation and report on both the initial structure collapse and the crane collapse.
the obvious lesson is to properly assess any last minute changes.
