lateral deflection limits for open structures
i am designing a search facility that basically consists of steel framing. wondering what deflection limits i need to use to design my lateral system. i am providing momonent connections at beam column joints and pinning the columns at the base.
find a job or post a job opening
i use l/180 for refinery structures, buildings need tighter limits unless it is a pre-engineered metal building.
look at aisc's design guide 3. it provides some guidance. it's free to download if you are an aisc
l/120 for agricultural structures, unoccupied pole buildings.
$/l for government structures.
