long span bridge design
i have designed several short and medium span bridges in the past. however, recent programs on the discovery channel have peaked my interest in long span bridge design. i have never worked on a long span bridge before, just want to satisfy my own curiosity. can anyone recommend any books or other references on the theory and design of long span bridges? also, those familiar with the aashto specs know that they only apply to bridges less than 500' long? is there another code that applies to long span bridges?

contact asce for their book list. one particular book covers truss, box, girder, and suspension bridges incl stayed:

it has comparative illustrated design data for leading existing bridges of all types.
check out t.y.lin - he has an international design firm and has previously pushed some wild ideas such as a long bridge connecting alaska to russia, and another bridge spanning over the strait of gilbraltar with a 1 mile span. i don't know if he has written books on this but i would assume so. i believe he died recently.
