默认 r factor - balcony

r factor - balcony
what value of r-factor do you use if your designing a balcony? do you guys still consider seismic loads for balconies? the plan dimension is 24ft x 10ft.
thanks!
check out our whitepaper library.
i believe the correct term is "deck" right? balcony means there is no external support. so it is a deck. hope to hear from you guys very soon. thanks!
correct me if i'm wrong, but the r value to use for portions of the building (such as a deck) should be the same as that for the overall building.
i think i would look at a different r only if the lateral system was independent of the main building. probably is connected and use the same r.
r = 3, unless you are doing special seismic detailing per aisc.
if you have cantilevered columns of some sort supporting your deck, then r=2.2 (per the ubc & cbc table 16-n).
