seismic loads for los cabos mexico area (baja)
hello there:
we will be designing 1 and 2 story reinforced cmu residential homes in los cabos area. has anyone designed there, i have been looking for a while for seismic data from the mexican jurisdictions but haven't found anything. would you assume sdc c d or f? soil there is sandy but there are large areas with rock at grade level.
the homes will be located less than a mile from the beach. wind considerations? 110, 120 mph wind assumption?
thanks!!
1. once i did some estimation and boss asked me to use california data. try calling the city officials in mexico. or email them
thanks dg khan!!hope they answer.
be willing to pay (bribe) someone to get the information since you are not a local engineer. just backcharge the client.
been there as a tourist, and i can see 120 mph exposure c, maybe even d, without a problem. but go by the local requirements. know nothing of the seismic info.

appendix in 1997 ubc has some design seismic zones for various cities in mexico. cabo isn't listed, but tijuana, mazatlan, & hermosillo are. should be able to give you a feel for what is appropriate.
jt12:
thanks a lot for the tip, i could have never imagined that data for those cities would be listed there. thanks a lot!!

p.s. i think i would use mazatlan data definetely, since it just across the sea of cortes.

this document has some information on places around the world.
thanks slickdeals
