默认 structural question related to asme

structural question related to asme?
hey folks, bit of an odd question here:
is there a part of the asme standards that relates to structures and structural design (akin to aisc)? as well, is there any discussion therein relating to material selection strategy for supporting structures?
the reason for the question is that the client had asked if we (structural) had looked to asme to try to optimize our structural design. although it is vessles that we are supporting, at a glance, i can't seem to find anything in asme related to the design of the support steel... i suspect that there was some confusion here.
thanks
drw

if you look in asme section viii, they define the pressure vessel boundary, and basically everything outside of that boundary is not covered by the asme code. in general, asme also does not cover seismic or wind loading on vessels. those would usually come from asce 7.
there may be exceptions for nuclear facilities.
there was a post here a while back about standards relating to the design of industrial structures, and those standards might be applicable to your work, but they're not asme related.
there is an asme standard for stack design. some of the stack-related problems, particularly wind vibration of vertical cylinders, are applicable to tall slender vessels as well. this is discussed in some of the pressure vessel handbooks available.
