support of foundation reinforcement
i heard once that reinforcment for footings should not be supported on either clay masonry or from rebar stuck into the ground because moisture can creep up on either and cause the footing reinforcing to corrode.
what is your opinion on that?
check out our whitepaper library.
both can occur. plastic chairs are the safest, and in the big scheme of things, cost almost nothing.
plastic chairs, steel wire chairs and small concrete blocks are all common in australia. the most popular is the plastic chair for slab on ground and suspended slabs.
steel wire chairs are often used used in above ground internal slabs as moisture is not a big issue.
the moisture creep and resulting rust problem in clay masonry and wire chairs is a fairly slow process and may not manifest itself for many years. hence it is not a big problem for the first owner, but the second or third may be in for a nasty surprise.
regards
sc
