默认 riangular bracket vs stiffened sea

triangular bracket vs stiffened seat
folks,
i have been checking on the difference between a triangular bracket and a stiffned seat.
according to s&j, the major difference seems to be that when the free edge is not parallel to the loading direction, the behavior is different.
on page 10-93 (aisc 13th), stiffener with a seat plate is shown with optional trim lines, one of which is not parallel to the line of load application. triangular bracket plate design calculates capacities based on "z" values for flexural yielding on free edge.
can someone shed some more light into what the real difference between either one is? it seems like a stiffened seat has more capacity than a triangular bracket.
a triangular bracket is more susceptible to buckling on the free edge, because of its declining section.
