默认 wood shearwall w offse

wood shearwall w/ offset
hello,
i have a three story wood shearwall. the first and second levels line up, but the third story is offset horizontally about 4 feet out. i was thinking i could design the third floor diaphragm to cantilever out (or x braces in the floor) to pick up the shear, and possibly cantilever some beams out to pick up the point loads of the overturning force couple at the wall ends.
any thoughts?
check out our whitepaper library.
4 feet is a little far for only cantilevering the joists. i would cantilever several beams and connect stronger beam at the end (instead of rim board). i would use inverted face mount hangers to attach the end beam to the cantilvered beams and joists. what do you think? dont forget to put blkg between joists at the bearing wall.
icenine,
i think your concept is fine. just trace the loads through the appropriate load paths, designing the

what code are you using? if it's the ubc and seismic is an issue, look at 1630.8.2 and 1633.2.9

i'm using ibc 2003. couldn't find anything prohibiting it.
thanks for the replies.
