and so how does one move a component?
translatecomponent obviously does not work... at least it requires user input.

i think you'll want to use the transform property of the component. the transform sets the component's position, rotation, etc. i haven't used them a lot, so i can't get you any sweet examples of how to use them, but i'm pretty sure that's what you need.
