derived hatch boundary/clicked or selected

hi,
i actually have two questions about hatches.
first, what does it mean that the hatch boundary (??) is 'derived' (group code 92, value 4)?
second, what is the sure way (in ths dxf file, or better: through opendwg's interface) to distiguish between the cases when the contour objects are selected vs. they are chosen by clicking to points? (my bet is that only in the clicked case is the pixel size positive, but i am not sure...)

if a hatch is created by autocad ui tool by clicking a point the boundary has 'derived' flag set and pixel size is non-zero.
if by selecting objects 'derived' flag is off and pixel size is zero.
but if a hatch is created via objectarx interface or a dwg file is exported from some application the loop flags and pixel size may have any values.
