asce 7-0?
anyone know when the next asce 7 will hit the racks and go on sale (and whether it will be asce 7-08 or 7-09)?

ha! isn't that the truth. ibc, aci, astm, asce, icc, etc etc...there really should be a limit to how often you have to pay for new versions or at least limit releases (many revisions/versions have very minor changes and there's no good reason to have another "something" out there to buy)...set it at every 3-4 years for all (maybe even coordinated so that the current astm is the current astm recognized by ibc for example). but that discussion is probably better suited for another thread (unless someone can post the answer relatively soon then this thread could simply turn in to a gripe session).
i think they were previously on a 3 year cycle - 7-02, then 7-05 so....7-08 is next then 7-11.

i think they have switched to a 5 year cycle so the next one will be 7-10.
the last i heard, they wanted to start going to a 5 year cycle because of these exact complaints. i think the new steel and concrete codes are supposed to come out in 2010 with the new 7 coming out in '13. the lag gives the material codes a coupla years to incorporate any new loading issues from a new 7.
the times when a code (the vaunted green book) stays in effect for 30 years are over, though.

next code and cycle times are as follows:
aci318 2011 (3yr minor update / 6 yr major update)
aisc 2010 (5 yr cycle)
asce 2010 (5 yr cycle) - maybe pushed to 2011.
ibc 2009 (3 yr cycle)
so - the next ibc to incorporate this round of codes will be ibc 2012.
keep in mind there may be supplements issued between cycles. i understand ibc 2009 will reference asce 7-05 supplement 2 (supplement 1 is the current blue covered 7-05). some jurisdictions skip the supplements, some do not.
