price of a moment connection
anyone could give me a ballpark of the price of a moment connection in lbs of steel or a comparison with a bolted connection in terms of price...just a ballpark is enough..thank you
a moment connection can be a bolted connection. are you really asking about the new-fangled seismic connections with their side plates and patented mechanics vs. good, old-fashioned moment connections? i would imagine that adding a couple of side plates to each connection of a multi-storey steel framed building would add some weight to the structure, but it wouldn't be competitive if the weight/cost added was substantially higher than bolted moment connections.

we've done some recent cost comparisons. here's what one large fabricator gave us for a cost:
shop prep for field weld: $120
stiffen columns: $250
field weld: $250
total moment connection cost: $620
