when i add a polyline to modelspace everything works fine:

center and target define direction of view. but you should also specify width and height of model space rectangle to scale to viewport. for example your drawing containes circle with (0,0,0) and radius 100. you defines view direction perpendicular to circle plane. now if you define width and height of model space rectangle to 2, you will see nothing, to 200 - whole circle.
there are two rectangles to define - boundary of viewport and model space rectangle. boundary of viewport defines "window" inside paper space, model space rectangle define part of model space to view via "window".
how would you set the model space rectangle?
i think the problem i have might be something different. i have paperspace dwg with a viewport. then i add stuff to the modelspace. this works fine. but when i start making changes to the viewport (playout->activeviewportid().safeopenobject(oddb::kforwrite )) it seems that none of my changes have any effect. is there something else i should do before the changes show?
did you try oddbviewport::zoomextents() ?

pviewport->zoomextents();does absolutely nothing, just like other actions on the viewport. i also tried this on the overallvport, but that does nothing either.
so the problem now is: i load a .dwg which is a paperspace with a viewport. in my code i add a xref to the modelspace and it shows up trough the viewport. but i can't seem to make any changes to this viewport. what can be wrong here?
