wind direction for runway usage
i need to filter wind conditions that make a runway unusable. i have the direction and speed, however i need to calculate how much of this is a tailwind, headwind & crosswind for a particular runway. if anyone knows of a formula or software that can do this for me please let me know.

log onto sporty's pilot shop and pick up the very "high-tech" e6-b computer. it's not really a computer, but more of a pilot's slide rule that can calculate wind direction.
thank you for the info on the e6b computer, however i have a database of 241,000 records that i need to analyze. i really need the formula that breaks a wind up into its crosswind and tail/headwind components. thanks again!!
why wouldn't this be a simple case of vector components?? if theta is the angle between the runway and the wind direction, the wind component along the runway is (wind speed)*cos(theta) and the cross wind component is (wind speed)*sin(theta)...
remember the actual runway heading may differ from its number designation.
