replacing dictionaries
is there a way to replace the namedobjects dictionary?
but what's the purpose of replacing? you can add/erase/replace entries in it.
note that to keep database valid named objects dictionary must contain a number of default entries.

all right then, i can see how to replace the image dictionary, but what is the proper way to clean out the raster variables object "acad_image_vars"?
i've tried deleting it and replacing, but that leads to end in a corrupt file:
"the following error was encountered while reading
in dictionaryvar starting at line 6770:"
what functions do you use for "replacing"?
btw, why you want to replace rastervariables. it's possible to edit existing object.

this is the code i was using to replace the two dictionary entries... however i'm still not sure whether the problem i'm having is related to insert, delete, or a combination of both.
...
if(!strcasecmp(objiter->name().c_str(),"acad_image_dict")
||!strcasecmp(objiter->name().c_str(),"acad_image_vars")){
objdict->remove(objiter->name().c_str());
//odrxobjectptr tmp = namedict->putat(objiter->name().c_str(), objiter->object());
}else{
cerr<<"other dict: "<<objiter->name().c_str()<<endl;
}
}
oddbobjectid imagedictid = oddbrasterimagedef::createimagedictionary(pdb);
oddbobjectptr tmpraster = oddbrastervariables::createobject();
oddbobjectid objid = objdict->setat("acad_image_vars", tmpraster);
...
my initial reason for replacing these was to facilitate the delete process of pre-existing images (an old set of code using a different set of libraries used this method to process dwg files. i tried using this since i believed that errors in the delete process were preventing me from writing to the file correctly, now i'm not so sure that this is what my problem is)
after you mentioned the old set of code i probably got an idea what's it all about. in oda c toolkit after you modified some data structure you had to call adreplacexxx() function to get the changes propagated into the drawing. you don not need to "replace" anything in dwgdirect. example - modifying raster variables:
code:
oddbrastervariablesptr prastervars(openrastervariables(pdb, oddb::kforwrite);
prastesvars->setimageframe(..);
prastesvars->setimagequality(..);
prastesvars->setuserscale(..);
// that's all
you need not to replace image dictionary. it's enough to simply remove unused entries (oddbrasterimagedef objects) from it. but note that oddbrasterimage entities reference oddbrasterimagedef objects not by name but by objectid at runtime (by handle in file). if you erase or replace an entry in image dictionary by another object the drawing gets corrupted because image entities still reference the old oddbrasterimagedef object which will not be saved to file.
