will dwgdirect support reading of dwf files
will dwgdirect support reading of dwf files
are there plans to include support for reading .dwf files in dwgdirect? i know that is it possible to write dwf files, but i am interested in reading them also.

i downloaded it and took a look. it does half the job (reading and writing .dwf files), but not the other half (dxf/dwg <-> dwf conversion).
do you know if the other half exists or if the opendwg project is considering implementing it?

i don't know of anyone who is giving a api or source to convert dwg <--> dwf. i think you will have to write this yourself or purchase a component.

we will be adding dwf import after the 1.09 release. it should be available within the next few months.

dwf export is implemented and odamfcapp sample can export dwf files.

i work over some years on dwg/dxf - dwf converter. and to have an api ist not all. whip and voloview are not compatible to it self. the documentation to dwf are not always implementated in whip and voloview, so you need many workarounds. the dwf files create from autodesk api are bigger then needed.
have a look on my converter (modelspace):
i have a newer version on my computer witch could model and paperspace and layouts.

thanks for the information thomas. i do not need to convert dqg/dxf <-> dwf in a batch process but rather as an import/export filter to/from my application.

support of dwf format
in my company we have been using opendwg toolkit (we are using visual c++) to draw dxf and dwg files in our application. the use of our process control system today demand loading large files, resulting in bad performance. we therefore want to read dwf-files instead.
i suppose the opendwg does not support dwf? support for dwf is planned in the next release of dwgdirect, isn't that right? i'm very interesting in when this release will be shipped...
and, will it be a big job to introduce using the dwgdirect for reading the dwf-format instead?
we still want to draw the image in our application in a way to support i.e. transparency, and that is problematic using an activex approach, isn't it?

dwf import will be available in the middle of december. but "import" means that dwf will be loaded into oddbdatabase - actually converted back to dwg.
if you need fast rendering it would work better if dwf is rendered directly instead of converting to dwg and rendering dwg.
autodesk's dwf toolkit (free) can be used for reading dwf files.

if you mean dwf, yes. autodesk's dwf toolkit supports reading and writing dwf files.
