define self intersecting geometry
i am relatively new to solidworks...only since last oct. i am drawing a tension spring. i have drawn the helix. and i have drawn the loop at one end of the spring. but the end of the loop and the end of the helix do not connect. i have trimmed the sweeps for each and i am using 'boundry' to blend the two sweeps together, but i get an rebuild error that states there is self intersecting geometry. the blended sweeps preliminary looks good, but it will not accept it due to this error. can anyone suggest how i can blend the two sweeps together? it almost appears as though i should fillet the sweeps, but i don't think that is possible.
the future solid geometry you are trying to build will occupy the same space or volume, ie. something is overlapping where it shouldn't.
combine the helix and the end loops at the sketch level, and create one sweep along the complete path. separate sketches can be combined using the composite curve function.

correction: after creating the helix, start a 3d sketch and convert the helix into it. then sketch the end loops in the 3d sketch to create one single path for the sweep.

be careful that the radii are not so small as to pinch the swept solid. that can create the self intersecting geometry.
